Accra, March 30, – Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Monday visited the site of the collapsed building at the Accra New Town Experimental School as investigations continue into the cause of the incident.
Accompanied by senior officials from her office, the Vice President was briefed by personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Interior Ministry, and other emergency services on the ongoing rescue and recovery operations.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang inspected the rubble of the uncompleted multi-storey structure, which collapsed on Sunday, claiming three lives and injuring at least 20 people. She expressed condolences to the bereaved families and pledged the Government’s commitment to a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.
Officials at the scene indicated that the building was an abandoned Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) project initiated in 2012. The structure reportedly collapsed while worshippers were inside. The deceased included two women and one man, while survivors were transported to various health facilities for treatment.
Following her site visit, the Vice President proceeded to the 37 Military Hospital, where 13 victims were receiving care. Six of the patients had already been discharged Monday morning. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang interacted with patients and medical staff, receiving briefings on their conditions and ongoing treatment efforts.
