Atebubu (Bono East), March 29, – Police have shot dead a suspected armed robber during an intelligence-led operation at Atebubu in the Bono East Region.
A police source said that the deceased, Osman Amadu, also known as “Manu,” was killed following an exchange of gunfire with officers.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Atebubu Government Hospital, where his body has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation.
According to the source, Amadu was a member of a robbery gang believed to be terrorising traders and passengers along the Atebubu–Ejura highway.
He was linked to a robbery incident on March 14, 2026, which involved an exchange of gunfire on the highway.
The source said the police later mounted an operation on March 18, targeting the suspect, who was believed to be hiding in Ejura, capital of the Ejura/Sekyedumase Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
During the operation, Amadu allegedly opened fire on the police, who returned fire and fatally shot him.
A search conducted on him led to the retrieval of a single-barrel gun, five live cartridges, GH¢200, and a Tecno Pop 10 mobile phone.
