Accra, Mar. 30, – Mr. Cong Song, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, on Monday presented his Letters of Credence to President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidency, reaffirming China’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations.

Delivering a message from Chinese President Xi Jinping, Mr. Cong conveyed warm greetings and pledged China’s continued support for Ghana and Africa, including backing the UN resolution declaring the transatlantic slave trade the gravest crime in human history.

He underscored the long-standing ties between the two countries, dating back to the era of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Chairman Mao Zedong, and Premier Zhou Enlai, noting that the relationship had remained resilient over 65 years despite global shifts.

Mr. Cong said Ghana–China relations had entered a new phase following recent high-level engagements between President Mahama and President Xi Jinping, marked by deepened political trust and expanded economic cooperation. He cited record bilateral trade of $14.1 billion and China’s support for Ghana’s key initiatives, including the Reset Agenda and the 24-Hour Economy Policy.

The Ambassador also highlighted opportunities for enhanced collaboration, including zero-tariff access for Ghanaian exports and increased Chinese investment in Ghana’s modernization drive. He assured President Mahama of his commitment to strengthening cooperation and friendship between the two nations.

President Mahama congratulated Mr. Cong on his appointment and reaffirmed Ghana’s high regard for its historic relationship with China. He expressed appreciation for China’s support, including grants for the Aflao Market project and a university in the Savannah Region.
