Accra, Mar. 30, – Five newly appointed envoys from France, Angola, Namibia, South Sudan and China on Monday presented their Letters of Credence to President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidency in Accra, reaffirming Ghana’s growing diplomatic engagement on the global stage.
The envoys are Madam Diarra Dime Labille (France), Mr Rui Orlando Ferreira De Ceita Da Silva Xaxier (Angola), Madam Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata (Namibia), Madam Jacquiline Natepi Ben Lochalamoi (South Sudan), and Mr Cong Song (China).
President Mahama reiterated Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and thanked the respective governments for supporting Ghana’s resolution at the United Nations General Assembly declaring the transatlantic slave trade the gravest crime against humanity. He expressed optimism that the resolution would pave the way for justice, healing and reparations.
In his engagement with the Chinese Ambassador, the President highlighted the longstanding historical ties between Ghana and China, rooted in the era of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai. He expressed gratitude to China for its role in Ghana’s debt restructuring and ongoing support, including grants for the Aflao Market project and a university in the Savannah Region.
President Mahama noted that Ghana’s economy was stabilising, with declining inflation and interest rates, improved debt sustainability, and increased foreign direct investment, a significant portion of which he said was coming from China. He added that such investments were critical for job creation, particularly for the youth.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s adherence to the One China Policy and called for stronger collaboration to attract more private sector investment, including in emerging sectors such as mining.
The envoys, in turn, pledged to deepen cooperation and strengthen ties between Ghana and their respective countries.
