Hohoe United FC Withdraws from Ghana Premier League Over Alleged Unfair Treatment

Hohoe (V/R), April 3, GNA – Hohoe United Football Club (HUFC) has officially withdrawn from the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League, citing what it described as systemic unfairness, procedural manipulation, and bias within the league’s administration.

In a statement issued by the Club’s Board, management said the decision, though painful, had become necessary as continued participation was no longer tenable under the prevailing conditions.

The Club highlighted a series of incidents that informed its decision, including a January 25, 2026 match against Vision FC at the Hohoe Sports Stadium, followed by a charge sheet issued by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on January 28. HUFC entered a “Not Guilty” plea and submitted its defence within the stipulated timeframe.

However, management expressed concern over a March 9, 2026 decision by the GFA Disciplinary Committee, which imposed a three-home-game ban and a GH¢30,000 fine—allegedly without a hearing, referee’s report, or detailed justification.

The Club further stated that despite filing an appeal on March 10, 2026, the process was mishandled, with officials later claiming the appeal had been directed to the wrong body, a position HUFC said had no basis in the regulations.

HUFC also cited:

  • Questionable officiating in matches, including games against Medeama SC and at Tema.
  • Forced venue changes, which denied the team home advantage.
  • Discriminatory ticket pricing during an away fixture against Swedru All Blacks.

According to the Club, these developments suggested that sanctions and decisions were strategically timed to affect its league standing.

“Throughout the process, we complied with every rule, filed every document on time, and conducted ourselves with dignity. In return, we have been met with procedural lies, forced venue changes, questionable officiating, and sanctions that appear timed to influence league standings,” the statement said.

The Club described the current football governance system as “highly compromised”, alleging it allows for control and bias rather than transparency and fairness.

HUFC acknowledged the consequences of its withdrawal but maintained that the move was a principled stand against injustice. It pledged to continue advocating for fair play in Ghanaian football through lawful means.

The Club expressed gratitude to its fans, sponsors, players, and technical team for their support, noting that the withdrawal marked “not the end, but the beginning” of its pursuit of justice.
