Tamale, March 29, — The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, has handed out start-up kits to 481 young people in the Tamale Metropolis under its Business in a Box (BizBox) initiative.
Implemented through the Access to Agricultural Entrepreneurship (AA2E) and Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship (A2E) programmes, the initiative equips beneficiaries with practical skills and resources to launch or expand their businesses.
The kits cover a wide range of trades, including rice and fruit processing, food production, masonry, plumbing, auto mechanics, electrical works, barbering, and carpentry.
Ms Margaret Ansei, GEA Chief Executive Officer, said the programme aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of empowering youth to drive national development. She emphasised the importance of technical and vocational skills in reducing unemployment, crime, and violence.
“Use these kits productively. Do not store them away or sell them in times of difficulty. Let them support your growth and create jobs for others,” she urged beneficiaries.
Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, hailed the programme as a milestone in promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods, noting that the diversity of trades reflected the opportunities in the local economy.
He called on beneficiaries to treat the kits as an investment in their future, urging them to grow their businesses and contribute to the development of the metropolis.
Professor Seidu Alidu Mahama, MP for Tamale Central, described the initiative as a strategic solution to youth unemployment and encouraged full utilisation of the support to build sustainable livelihoods.
The BizBox project is part of broader GEA efforts, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, to boost entrepreneurship and improve youth livelihoods across Ghana.
