Cape Coast, April 15, – The family of late Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong has called on authorities to expedite investigations into his death following a fatal shooting incident on the Bibiani–Goaso highway.
The 22-year-old striker, described by relatives as disciplined and promising, was among players returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture when the attack reportedly occurred near Ahyiresu after their 1–0 defeat to FC Samartex.
Family head and Ninfahene of Assin Dansame, Nana Gyan Agyabeng I, said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain deeply troubling, especially claims that the victim was the only person hit despite several passengers being on board.
He said the family was struggling to understand how the bullet allegedly singled out the young footballer, describing the situation as “unexplainable” and calling for a transparent investigation.
According to early accounts, armed assailants are said to have blocked the team bus and opened fire, during which Frimpong sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The incident has thrown Assin Dansame in the Assin North District into mourning, with residents describing the deceased as a hardworking youth who inspired many young people in the community.
Born in 2005, Frimpong rose through the ranks of Ghanaian football, featuring for Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars, and previously representing Ghana at U-17 level. He made 14 Ghana Premier League appearances and scored twice.
Nana Agyabeng paid tribute to the late striker, noting his humility, discipline, and commitment both on and off the pitch, adding that his death represents a devastating blow to the community’s youth aspirations.
Officials of Aduana FC, including Chief Executive Officer Collins Atta Poku, have visited the bereaved family to formally convey the club’s condolences and confirm details of the incident.
The family is urging security agencies to leave no stone unturned in uncovering those responsible and ensuring justice is served.
