Accra, April 14, – The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has expressed support for the implementation of the Publican Artificial Intelligence (AI) system at the country’s ports.
The Association said reports suggesting it opposed the system were misleading and based on earlier concerns raised in December 2025, which have since been addressed through stakeholder engagement.
In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr Samson Asaki Awingobit, the IEAG explained that its initial objections centred on issues such as limited stakeholder consultation, data protection, transparency and system integration.
It said subsequent engagements between government, the Ministry of Finance, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and industry players helped resolve several of these concerns.
The Association noted that the dialogue process demonstrated government’s willingness to refine the implementation framework and improve the system’s effectiveness.
It therefore stated that it now fully supports the rollout of the Publican AI system, which is already in operation.
IEAG acknowledged that some operational challenges had emerged during implementation but said such issues were normal in large-scale technological reforms.
It commended authorities for ongoing efforts to address these challenges and stabilise the system.
The Association said the AI platform had the potential to improve revenue mobilisation, reduce leakages, enhance transparency and curb unethical practices at the ports.
It described the initiative as a key step in modernising Ghana’s trade facilitation processes and strengthening economic performance.
IEAG urged stakeholders to avoid misrepresenting its position and called for collective support to ensure the success of the system.
It reaffirmed its commitment to policies that promote efficiency, fairness and competitiveness in Ghana’s trade environment.
