Kumasi, April 21, – The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has removed one of his linguists, Kyeame Kofi Nti, from office following allegations of misconduct during an Asanteman Council meeting held at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, April 20, 2026.
The decision followed the presentation of several complaints before the Council, accusing the linguist of misconduct, including incitement, abuse of authority, extortion, and disrespect for the Great Oath of Asanteman.
Some petitioners also alleged that Kyeame Kofi Nti had previously failed to properly respond to an oath invoked against him in March 2026, instead claiming he needed to first inform the Asantehene before taking action. The Council noted that such a delay was inconsistent with established traditional procedures.
Further concerns were raised about his eligibility for the position, with claims that he had no verifiable royal lineage, a requirement considered important within the traditional structure of the Palace.
Although Kyeame Kofi Nti appealed for leniency, insisting that his actions had been misinterpreted and carried out under instruction, the Asantehene upheld the Council’s decision and ordered his destoolment.
Palace sources described the move as a strong indication of the Asantehene’s commitment to discipline and accountability within the traditional administration.
The meeting also received reports from Nana Dwamena Akenten II, Offinsohene, and Baffour Amankwatia VI, Bantamahene, who had overseen Asanteman affairs during the Asantehene’s absence.
Additionally, newly enstooled chiefs, including Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, Asante Mamponghene, Nana Saforo Baah III, Woraworahene, and Nana Kwaku Dankwa Opamago Kodie II, Juansahene, expressed gratitude to the Asantehene and pledged to uphold peace and unity in their jurisdictions.
The Council confirmed that the dismissal reduces the number of linguists serving the Asantehene from 12 to 11.
