Viral Child Abuse Video Not From Ghana – Police Clarify

Accra, March 23, – The Ghana Police Service has clarified that a viral video showing a child being abused, widely circulated on social media, did not occur in Ghana but in Nigeria.

According to a police press release, the footage was investigated by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) after the video was widely shared online and many users tagged the Police for verification.

The Police said investigations confirmed the incident took place in Oko Baale, Ado Odo Otta in Ogun State, Nigeria. The video shows a man, identified as Odukaye Kunle, assaulting his young son, Boluwatife, during a domestic dispute.

The case has since been taken up by the Nigeria Police Force, which arrested the suspect, who is expected to face charges in court. The child and his mother were also taken to a police medical centre in Otta for medical evaluation and care.

The Ghana Police Service commended the public for their vigilance and concern and assured that it would continue to collaborate with citizens and international partners to combat crime and verify viral incidents.
