Sunyani (Bono), March 23, – A Level 400 Petroleum Engineering student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), identified as Godfred Akomaning, popularly known as “Immortal Legend,” has reportedly died in what is suspected to be a case of suicide.
Sources within the university community indicated that the deceased, who was the 2025 winner of the Ghana Universities Debate Championship, allegedly left a note before his death. He is reported to have ingested a toxic substance outside the university campus.
A university source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the incident occurred over the weekend, adding that authorities were gathering details surrounding the circumstances.
“We understand he may have been dealing with mental health challenges,” the source said, noting that the university was yet to formally engage the bereaved family.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the university community, where the late student was widely known for his academic and extracurricular achievements.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to establish the full details of the incident.
