Tourism Minister Slams Alleged Assault on Ibrahim Mahama, Demands Probe

Accra, March 24, – The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has condemned the alleged assault on businessman and art patron Ibrahim Mahama, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.

Government Steps In
In a statement issued in Accra, the Minister described the incident as “totally unacceptable,” stressing that acts that undermine citizens’ dignity must not be tolerated.

She disclosed that she had engaged the Minister for the Interior, who confirmed that the Inspector-General of Police had already initiated investigations into the matter.

Concern Over Security Conduct
Madam Gomashie warned that repeated allegations of misconduct by security personnel risk eroding public trust if not decisively addressed.

“This is one too many… there is urgency for systemic reforms,” she said.

She noted that Mr Mahama’s standing in society makes the incident particularly troubling, cautioning that ordinary citizens could face even greater vulnerability.

Support for the Victim
The Minister said she had personally spoken to Mr Mahama to understand his account and secure consent to escalate the issue.

She assured that the Ministry would provide necessary support, including assistance throughout his recovery and legal processes.

Call for Justice
While urging the public not to prejudge the outcome, she emphasised the need for accountability if wrongdoing is established.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and safety of all Ghanaians, especially those within the creative arts sector.
