Tamale, March 24,– The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested 77 suspects in a targeted anti-drug operation conducted in the Tamale Metropolis and Savelugu Municipality.
Coordinated Night Operation
The exercise, led by the Command’s Special Operations Team (Red Maria), forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and related crimes in the region.
A statement signed by Chief Inspector Luckman Niendow Alhassan, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said the operation was carried out on Monday, March 23, at about 2130 hours, involving 33 personnel.
Arrests Across Key Hotspots
The operation targeted known drug activity areas, including:
Lamashegu (Tamale): One suspect arrested
Aboabo Market: One suspect apprehended with a substance suspected to be cocaine
NOBISCO area: Alleged supplier arrested (no exhibits found)
Savelugu: Major raid leading to 74 additional arrests

Items seized during the operation included:
Seven motorbikes
One Toyota Camry saloon car
Substances suspected to be Indian hemp
Ten sachets of Tramadol
Next Steps
All suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations and are undergoing screening. Those found culpable will be arraigned before court.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related offences and called on the public to provide timely and credible information to support crime-fighting efforts.
