Tema, March 24, – The family of victims involved in the recent microlight aircraft crash at Site 18, Tema Community One, has appealed for calm, resilience, and community support as they prepare to lay their loved ones to rest.
Tragedy That Shook the Community
The appeal was made during a stakeholder engagement organised by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), which brought together parents, school authorities, and security agencies to address the aftermath of the incident.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Apostle Martin Larbi, a retired Apostle of the Church of Pentecost and former Tema Area Head, gave an emotional account of the loss.
Victims Identified
He identified the victims as:
Captain Frank Amoanyi Donkor
Elijah Ofori Donkor, his younger brother
According to him, Captain Donkor had travelled from Ho to Accra for a meeting and decided to take his brother along, who was visiting at the time.
The aircraft reportedly developed a mechanical fault shortly after take-off, leading to the fatal crash.
“We heard the news of the crash and were praying for those involved, not knowing it was our own family members,” Apostle Larbi said.
Family Response and Support
He noted that the victims’ parents, who were initially out of town, have since returned to Tema to oversee funeral arrangements.
The family expressed gratitude to:
Ghana Police Service
Ghana National Fire Service
Ghana Armed Forces
Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB)
for their swift response and ongoing investigations.
Impact on School Community
Apostle Larbi acknowledged the psychological impact of the tragedy on pupils and staff of the affected school, indicating that the family would engage school authorities on ways to offer support in memory of the deceased.
Funeral Arrangements
The final funeral rites have been scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026, with special permission granted for the ceremony to be held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
Ongoing Investigations
The Tema Metropolitan Assembly assured the public of continued collaboration with aviation investigators to determine the exact cause of the crash and review safety protocols within the metropolis.
