Wa (UW/R), March 19, – The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with two armed robbery incidents in the Wa West District.
The suspects – Iddrisu Sidibey (19), Abdulai Bandey (20), and Suleman Issah Zibrim (23) – are alleged to have carried out attacks on victims along the Ga–Wechiau road, between the Gadi and Chogsia communities. A fourth suspect, Abdul Rahman Abdulai, was later apprehended.
According to a statement from the Command’s Public Affairs Unit, the first three suspects were arrested at Chogsia on February 28, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation. On March 11, 2026, Bandey reportedly led police to Gojiyiri near Wechiau, where Abdul Rahman Abdulai was arrested as an alleged accomplice.
Police say Abdul Rahman Abdulai, believed to have supplied the firearm used in the robberies, subsequently led officers to a bush where the weapon had been concealed.
Investigations indicate that the suspects attacked Thomas Dormatey, a teacher, on February 28, 2026, shooting him in the leg and robbing him of GH¢2,600 and a mobile phone. In a separate incident on March 8, 2026, Issah Ibrahim was also attacked and robbed of GH¢2,750 and his mobile phone while returning from the Jagluu community.
The statement noted that in both cases, the attackers, masked and armed with guns and machetes, emerged from nearby bushes to ambush their victims.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of two cutlasses and four mobile phones, which have been kept as exhibits to aid investigations.
The suspects have since been arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court and remanded into police custody. They are expected to reappear on March 26, 2026.
Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices, identified as Adil and Sambo, who remain at large. The Command assured residents of its commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region.
