NPP Minority Urges Transparency on GH₵73 Billion Road Contracts

Accra, March 24,  – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament has called on government to disclose details of 81 of the 107 road contracts awarded through sole sourcing under the Big Push infrastructure initiative, representing a total value of GH₵73 billion (US$6.89 billion).

Speaking to the Parliamentary Press Corps in Accra on Tuesday, Mr. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, NPP Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru and Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee, emphasized that the Minority supports the Big Push programme but is concerned about the lack of transparency and potential partisan considerations in awarding contracts over the past seven months.

Mr. Osei Nyarko highlighted that more than 1,000 ongoing road projects, which had reached 57 to 93 per cent completion by December 31, 2024, were reportedly abandoned, with nearly 80 per cent left unattended following the NDC government’s assumption of office in 2025.

He stressed the Minority’s resolve to continue oversight to ensure fiscal discipline, accountability, and efficiency in the use of public funds for road infrastructure.

Additional issues raised included the operationalisation of the National Road Authority Secretariat, reimbursement of the National Road Fund, delays in the Suame three-tier interchange, and transparency concerns on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project. Other areas of concern are the Drip Programme, setbacks in the railway sector, the Boankra inland port project, and the implementation of the Shippers Act and shipping surcharges.

The Minority reiterated its commitment to ensuring that road projects prioritize national interest over partisan objectives.
