Mother demands full probe into daughter’s suspected poisoning at Adawso

Dodowa, March 12, – A grieving mother, Millicent Dadebo, is calling for a comprehensive investigation into the death of her daughter, Gloria Awatey, amid suspicions of foul play in Adawso, Eastern Region.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Madam Dadebo said her daughter, a seamstress, called her on January 8, 2026, reporting fatigue after a long day of work and intending to rest. She also mentioned that her partner, Ernest Klonu, had unsuccessfully tried to contact her.

Later that night, Gloria was discovered foaming at the mouth by a community member known as “Teacher” and collapsed. Some neighbours suspected poisoning and administered palm oil in an attempt to counteract the substance. She was taken to a nearby clinic but was declared dead shortly after arrival.

Madam Dadebo claims that Gloria’s seven-year-old daughter reported seeing her father prepare a concoction that he allegedly made Gloria consume. Ernest denied these allegations.

The family expressed concerns over the handling of the autopsy, stating that they were not given access to the report, which was submitted directly to the police. The suspect was later granted bail.

Madam Dadebo also alleged that prior to her death, Gloria had confided that Ernest had threatened to kill her by burning or poisoning. The mother emphasized that the children, three in total, are now under family care, with the youngest living with her. She added that Ernest’s family provided GH¢100 for their care.

She appealed to the Ghana Police Service, particularly the Inspector-General, to ensure the investigation is transparent, thorough, and impartial.
