Accra, Feb. 27, – President John Dramani Mahama voiced optimism for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup showing but cautioned fans to follow U.S. visa rules strictly, preserving the nation’s restored five-year non-immigrant privileges.
In his State of the Nation Address, he noted Black Stars face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. “We’ve worked hard with U.S. authorities to lift sanctions and restore visas—don’t let fan travel reverse that,” he urged.
“Supporters must return home. This event shouldn’t send thousands abroad and land us back on the ban list.”
Mahama outlined 2026 sports plans: Black Queens chase WAFCON success after 2025 Morocco bronze; multi-disciplinary squad for Dakar Youth Olympics; stronger Commonwealth Games push in Glasgow.
