GFA seeks $13.7m for Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifiers, group stage and beyond


Accra, Feb. 27,  – Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams says the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed a $13.7 million (GH¢146 million) budget for the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Presenting to Parliament’s Sports Committee, Mr. Adams detailed coverage for pre-tournament prep, group-stage play, and knockout progression.

Budget Breakdown:

  • $1.23M for FIFA-approved camps and friendlies.

  • $6.28M for group stage (largest chunk)—appearance fees, match bonuses, per diems for players/staff, official allowances.

  • Knockout costs taper: $690K (Round of 32), $920K (Round of 16), $1.14M (quarters), $1.37M (semis), $1.84M (final).

  • $310K for management/staff honorariums.

“No appearance fees post-group stage, so expenses decline in knockouts,” he noted.

Ghana faces Panama first, followed by England and Croatia.
