Joint Military-Police Operation in Bono Leads to 24 Arrests, Weapons Seized



Accra, March 23, – A coordinated operation by the Bono Regional Police Command, the 3rd Infantry Battalion (3BN), and the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) has resulted in the arrest of 24 suspects and the recovery of multiple weapons in Sampa Township, Bono Region.

The early morning operation on March 21 was part of ongoing efforts to remove illegal weapons and criminal elements from the area.

Weapons and Items Recovered

According to a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, authorities recovered:

  • Firearms: 5 pump-action guns, 1 Baikal gun, 2 locally made guns, 1 AK-47 ammunition
  • Ammunition: 790 rounds of AAA & BB cartridges
  • Bladed and striking weapons: 21 machetes, 4 bayonets, 5 clubs, 6 knives
  • Military and tactical items: 7 pairs of boots, 2 military jackets, 2 body armours (one without metal plate)
  • Other items: 12 smartphones, 6 keypad phones, 8 motorbikes, 1 official stamp of the Sampa Traditional Council, pliers, chisel, torchlight, Ripsaw, and quantities of talisman

Suspects in Custody

The suspects, aged 13 to 78, include Losina Ibrahim (21), Siaka Sirachi (20), Samuel Nketia (58), Wuli Kwabena Mensah (54), Daniel Damoah (16), Sie Mayr Alphonses (17), Musah Shakure (13), Akwasi Bio (16), and Emmanuel Mensah Kofi (18), among others.

Two of the suspects, Sie Emmanuel and Mensah Kofi Emmanuel, were specifically apprehended for breaching curfew regulations.

Police Statement

All suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations, with preparations underway to prosecute them.

The Bono Regional Police Command urged the public to continue providing credible information on illegal weapons, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in enhancing safety and security in the region.
