IGP Deploys Armed Security to Nkwanta After Deadly Clashes

Accra, March 26, – The Inspector-General of Police has deployed armoured vehicles and additional security personnel to Nkwanta following renewed violence in the area, with calm now reportedly restored.

A joint security operation involving the Police, Military, Bureau of National Investigations, Defence Intelligence and the Ghana National Fire Service recovered five bodies—three males and two females—from two separate locations within the Nkwanta South Municipality.

The development was confirmed in a press release issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Police Command, and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

“Investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify and bring perpetrators to justice,” DSP Nchor stated.

The Police have urged residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities to remain calm and support security agencies with credible information to aid investigations.

The statement also cautioned the public against the spread of misinformation and actions that could escalate tensions.
