Assafuah Criticises Zero Allocation to National Youth Authority in 2026

Accra, March 26,  – The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Mr Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has criticised the absence of funding for the National Youth Authority (NYA) from the District Assemblies Common Fund for the 2026 financial year.

He described the situation as a setback to youth development, calling for urgent government intervention to restore support for the Authority.

Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps at Parliament House in Accra, Mr Assafuah said the NYA had received no allocation from the Common Fund for 2026.

“This is not just a policy gap; it is a painful abandonment of responsibility,” he stated.

The MP contrasted the current situation with previous years, noting that the Authority received GH¢76.4 million in 2017, despite a reported 16.78 per cent increase in the overall District Assemblies Common Fund allocation in 2026.

He questioned government priorities, arguing that the reduction in funding undermined efforts to empower the youth.

“They promised the youth a ladder to opportunity, but after the election, they kicked the ladder away,” he said.

Mr Assafuah called for the restoration of funding to the NYA, as well as greater transparency and accountability in the allocation of public resources.

He emphasised the need to prioritise youth-focused programmes to promote national development.
