Fertilizer Platform Ghana Calls for Clarity on Feed Ghana Programme

Accra, March 26, – Fertilizer Platform Ghana (FPG) has raised concerns over the lack of clarity surrounding the fertiliser component of government’s flagship Feed Ghana Programme.

The Platform said although it welcomed government’s commitment to modernising agriculture, improving food security and reducing import dependency, the absence of clear guidelines on fertiliser supply posed challenges to stakeholders.

In a statement issued in Accra, FPG noted that key players within the fertiliser value chain had not been sufficiently engaged or informed about the implementation framework.

It emphasised that fertiliser remained a critical input for boosting agricultural productivity and sustaining growth, making policy clarity essential.

The Platform said the lack of direction on procurement, distribution and supplier engagement had created uncertainty within the sector.

It warned that the situation could disrupt planning and coordination of fertiliser supply ahead of the farming season.

According to the statement, delays in fertiliser availability, potential price instability and inefficiencies in distribution were among the key risks.

FPG also cited global geopolitical tensions, including the Israel-United States and Iran conflict, as factors that could affect fertiliser supply chains.

It said these external pressures further constrained suppliers’ ability to align with government objectives under the programme.

The Platform called on the Government and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to provide detailed guidelines on the fertiliser support policy.

It urged authorities to engage industry players to clarify roles, responsibilities and timelines for implementation.

FPG also called for transparency in procurement processes and greater inclusiveness in stakeholder participation.

It recommended the introduction of a fertiliser declaration regime to improve tracking of available quantities in the country.

The statement stressed that a well-coordinated fertiliser strategy was critical to the success of the Feed Ghana Programme.

FPG assured the Government of its readiness to collaborate to ensure timely and affordable supply of agricultural inputs to farmers nationwide.
