Accra, March 2, – The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has acted swiftly to safeguard the Black Queens and evaluate their participation in the Pink Ladies Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amid escalating Middle East tensions.
The regional unrest has halted many activities, including the Black Queens' involvement in this year's tournament. After their 4-0 victory over Hong Kong, China, at Al-Hamriyah Sports Stadium, the team was scheduled to face Russia and Tanzania next.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku met with the squad to call for calm. "He assured the team that the GFA has, over the last 24 to 48 hours, engaged all stakeholders—including Ghana’s mission in the UAE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and security advisors—to find the right solution," the association's statement said.
It added that Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams contacted the team to offer government support during this tense period.
"The GFA respectfully urges everyone to remain calm as we monitor developments," the statement concluded, promising updates to stakeholders.
The Black Queens have been in the UAE for a week, using the tournament to prepare for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. They seek to surpass last year's bronze-medal finish.
