Accra, March 1, – Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, face uncertainty over their continued participation in the Pink Ladies Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following a reported missile incident in the country.
The Black Queens opened their campaign in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 victory over Hong Kong, China, on Saturday at the Al-Hamriyah Sports Stadium. The match forms part of the team’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Ghana aims to build on its bronze medal finish at the previous edition.
The team is scheduled to play Russia and Tanzania in subsequent fixtures. However, sporting and public activities in parts of the UAE were reportedly disrupted after ballistic missile attacks on Saturday, as confirmed by the UAE Ministry of Defence.
Sources close to the team indicate that the Black Queens are safe at their hotel base in Sharjah. Officials of the Ghana Football Association are said to be closely monitoring the situation and engaging relevant authorities to determine the next course of action.
Any disruption to the tournament could affect Ghana’s WAFCON build-up, as the Pink Ladies Cup was designed to provide competitive match fitness and tactical fine-tuning ahead of the continental competition.
