Accra, March 2, – Bibiani Gold Stars brought an end to Accra Hearts of Oak’s six-match unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory on Sunday, tightening the race at the top of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The Miners, now on a four-game winning streak, took the lead in the 15th minute through Samuel Atta Kumi. Hearts responded with an equaliser from Henry Kwaku Boateng before Augustine Boakye netted the decisive goal late in the game to seal the three points.
Gold Stars move to 45 points, just one behind leaders Medeama SC, who were held to a goalless draw by Swedru All Blacks FC at the Swedru Sports Stadium. Hearts remain third on 40 points.
At the Baba Yara Stadium, Asante Kotoko were unable to capitalise on a numerical advantage as they settled for a 0-0 draw against Vision FC. Vision played the final 21 minutes with ten men following Mohammed Awudu’s dismissal. Kotoko sit fourth, seven points adrift of the summit.
Dreams FC strengthened their bid to avoid relegation with a 1-0 win over Aduana FC at Tuba, thanks to a 67th-minute strike from captain John Antwi.
Hohoe United FC also boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 triumph over FC Samartex 1996, secured by Kekeli Attor early in the second half.
Basake Holy Stars continued their impressive home form with a victory against Heart of Lions, who were reduced to ten men in the first half. Prince Tweneboah’s goal ensured back-to-back home wins and moved Holy Stars further clear of the drop zone.
At Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea secured a late 1-1 draw against Young Apostles FC. Richmond Opoku had given the visitors the lead before Benjamin Abaidoo struck deep into stoppage time.
In Bechem, Bechem United and Karela United shared the points in a goalless encounter. The Hunters finished with ten men after Rasco Abassah London’s late red card, but Karela failed to make their advantage count.
