Accra, March 25, — Mr. Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has called on Ghanaians to place active citizenship above partisan interests to safeguard democracy.
At the Akoto Ampaw Active Citizenship Dialogue 2026 in Accra, he noted that partisanship often undermines national progress, urging citizens, especially youth, to engage in community initiatives, policy debates, and civic accountability measures.
“Democracy flourishes when citizenship outweighs party loyalty. The future of our nation depends on citizens taking ownership beyond the ballot,” he said.
The forum, organised by the STAR-Ghana Foundation under the theme “Beyond the Ballot: Reclaiming Citizenship in a Polarized Ghana”, stressed practical steps for civic participation, including responsible governance engagement, issue-focused advocacy, and maintaining ethical conduct online and offline.
Madam Eunice Racheal Agbenyadzi, Head of Programmes at STAR-Ghana, highlighted that the dialogue honours the legacy of activist Akoto Ampaw, aiming to inspire citizens to act decisively for societal improvement while bridging political divides.
Mr. Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, NDC MP for Madina, praised the activist’s legacy, emphasising integrity, consistency, and accountability as essential in public advocacy.
