Aseseso (E/R), March 25, – The death of a police officer in a crash involving a police Rhino Kia mini truck on the Somanya–Adukrom highway has renewed urgent calls for safety measures on the hazardous Aseseso hill.
The accident, which occurred on March 21, 2026, involved three male occupants when the vehicle reportedly suffered a gear lever malfunction while descending the steep hill.
Personnel from the Kpong Municipal Fire Station, acting on a distress call, rescued two civilians from the wreckage and transported them to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital. Hospital Administrator Mr Emmanuel Ashiabi confirmed that the injured, aged 53 and 20, were treated and discharged, while the police driver died in the crash.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangerous nature of the Aseseso hill, notorious for multiple fatal accidents over the years. Residents and frequent road users have consistently urged authorities to enforce stricter vehicle maintenance checks and introduce preventive safety interventions.
Historical records show that in March 2025, two people died and several students were injured when a bus from Ben Kunadu SDA School crashed along the same stretch. In October 2025, a truck carrying pharmaceutical products overturned, spilling its cargo, while a June 2024 crash involving staff of Koforidua SHTS claimed lives.
The latest tragedy has intensified public pressure on government agencies to implement effective measures to prevent further accidents and fatalities on the hill.
