Accra, March 13, - The female
senior national team, the Black Queens would receive a total amount of $32,000.00,
for winning the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Women’s Championship.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports
(MOYS) announced at the “meet-the- press” series on Tuesday.
Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister
of Youth and Sports said, the gesture was an appreciation from the state to the
team for lifting the flag of Ghana high.
He said the package to the female
players should not be compared to that of their male counterparts (Black Stars
B) who received $100,000.00 for winning the WAFU cup.
He explained that the Black Stars
B, had won a much bigger competition than their female colleagues hence the
difference in winning packages for both teams.
“The national female football
team, the Black Queens recently won the WAFU Zone B Women’s Championship by
beating the host nation La Cote D’Ivoire.
“The ministry has approved a
package of $32,000.00 for the Black Queens. So each member of the team gets
$1,000. That is the package for Black Queens for making Ghana proud.
“This is the WAFU Zone B, the
WAFU for the male was the entire West Africa so let’s make that distinction
clear,” the minister explained.
The Black Queen’s WAFU Zone B
trophy won last month represents the first major title ever won by Ghana’s
senior female national football team.
