Accra, March 13, – Mr. Isaac K.
Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports, has disclosed that, the government has
approved $8 million to host the 2018 Total African Women’s Championship from
November 17 to December 1, 2018.
Ghana would host the 13th edition
of the competition for the first time, after placing third in the last edition
in Cameroon.
According to the minister, the
government would spend $8 million on the competition, which would include
renovating the Accra Sports Stadium, training pitches at El-Wak and the Robert
Mensah Stadium in Accra and Cape Coast, in its bid to host a successful
tourney.
He said “The Akufo-Addo led
government has approved $8 million for the hosting of the Women’s AFCON”.
The Black Queens guided by Coach
Mercy Tagoe won the maiden West Africa Footbvall Union (WAFU) Cup of nations in
Cote d’Ivoire a month ago and are expected to win the Africa Women’s Cup of
Nations.
The tournament also doubles as
the African qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. The top three teams
will qualify for the World Cup
