Boli (Upper West Region), April 23, – Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged party members to strengthen unity and cohesion as a foundation for electoral success.
He said internal division could undermine even the strongest campaign efforts, stressing that unity remained the most decisive factor in winning elections.
“I beg you, no campaign can secure you victory better than unity. If you are divided, no matter your individual effort, you will still lose,” he said.
Mr Nketiah made the remarks at Boli in the Wa Central Constituency during his thank-you tour of the Upper West Region, where he met chiefs, party supporters, and residents.
He acknowledged the relative unity within the constituency and the region, which he said contributed to the party’s success in the 2024 general elections.
The NDC Chairman noted that disagreements were inevitable in political organisations but stressed the need for proper management to avoid division and instability.
“You can rock the boat, but don’t rock it so violently that it creates problems for all of us,” he cautioned.
He expressed appreciation to traditional leaders in the region for their support during the elections and for their role in strengthening party mobilisation.
Mr Nketiah also disclosed that a presidential committee reviewing administrative upgrades had recommended the elevation of Wa Municipality to metropolitan status.
He said the upgrade would increase resource allocation and support job creation and development planning in the area.
He further announced that Wa West District had also been recommended for elevation to municipal status under the same review process.
At Dorimon, he urged chiefs and residents to actively participate in governance and development initiatives to sustain progress in their communities.
However, Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II, Paramount Chief of the Dorimon Traditional Area, raised concerns over what he described as uneven development in the district.
He called for the creation of a separate district for Dorimon, arguing that it was necessary to address long-standing development gaps.
He also highlighted abandoned infrastructure projects, including the Wa–Dorimon road and the Dorimon E-Block, calling for urgent government attention.
