Two Remanded for Alleged Jewellery Shop Robbery in Accra


Accra, April 3 – An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Musa Abdul Aziz Mamoud, also known as Justin Martin, 34, a stock trader, and Donatus Kwame Donkor, 37, a carpenter, for their alleged involvement in a robbery at Berma Jewellery Shop in Westland, near Haatso, Accra.

The suspects are accused of stealing gold accessories valued at GHC 2 million on April 26, 2025, after reportedly spraying pepper into the eyes of a security guard and a shop attendant.

Charges and Court Proceedings

  • Both accused face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery.
  • Mamoud faces additional charges of causing unlawful damage and money laundering.
  • Both have pleaded not guilty.
  • The court has adjourned the case to April 13, 2026, ordering the prosecution to file witness statements and other disclosures.
  • ASP Emmanuel Haligah is leading the prosecution.

Incident Details

  • Mamoud allegedly disguised himself in a pullover, trousers, gloves, and a mask, and rode a motorbike to the shop.
  • Donkor reportedly distracted the security guard, allowing Mamoud to enter.
  • Mamoud allegedly overpowered the guard and sprayed him and a sales attendant with pepper spray before taking various gold items including chains, pendants, earrings, and bracelets.
  • He then fled on a motorbike with the stolen items.

Investigations

  • Mamoud was arrested on March 24, 2026, and a search of his residence recovered masks, a hammer, pepper spray, a toy gun, crash helmet, assorted jewellery, a gold detector, and a weighing scale.
  • Donkor was arrested on March 26, 2026, and the motorbike allegedly used in the robbery was retrieved.
  • Investigations indicate Mamoud sold part of the stolen jewellery and used some proceeds to purchase a Toyota FJ Cruiser.
  • Police investigations are ongoing.
