Accra, April 14, - An Accra Circuit Court has remanded three persons into custody over alleged possession and trafficking of substances suspected to be cocaine.
The accused are Bright Ayivor, a 37-year-old trader, Ijiuba Ifeanyi Anicetu, a 51-year-old technician, and Kwabena Botwe, a 58-year-old businessman.
They are facing charges of conspiracy, possession, and trafficking of narcotic substances without lawful authority.
The Court, presided over by Madam Emanuella Sarah Asmah, did not take their pleas because the suspected substances have been forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
They are to reappear on April 29, 2026.
Presenting the facts, Police Inspector Frank Morgan Dorvi said the arrests followed intelligence on a planned drug transaction within the Accra metropolis.
He said officers mounted surveillance at Dworwulu on April 10, 2026, after receiving information that a group intended to engage in narcotics trade.
Although the suspects initially failed to show up, further intelligence indicated arrangements to supply compressed slabs of suspected cocaine to a buyer at the same location.
Inspector Dorvi said Ifeanyi was later arrested with 12 compressed slabs of substances believed to be cocaine.
During interrogation, he allegedly stated that he had been sent by an individual based in Belgium to meet Ayivor and hand over the consignment.
The Court heard that the substances were valued at 193,600 United States dollars.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Ayivor, who was also found with additional quantities of the suspected narcotics.
Botwe, believed to be the supplier, was later arrested while waiting to receive payment from the transaction.
A search at his residence uncovered GH¢400,000.00, suspected to be proceeds from the illicit trade.
The prosecution said investigations suggested that the accused had been involved in narcotics trafficking for some time, with one Togbe Kwasi Atsyovi, currently at large, identified as the alleged kingpin.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
The Court declined a bail application after the prosecution opposed it, citing ongoing investigations.
