Accra, March 29, — Parliament has adjourned sine die from its First Meeting of the Second Session, with Speaker Alban Bagbin urging Members of Parliament (MPs) to leave behind absenteeism and lateness “with Christ” and embrace renewed dedication to public service.
The Speaker lamented the persistence of tardiness and absenteeism, praying that MPs would return with renewed zeal for the nation. Despite these concerns, he commended lawmakers for their commitment, noting that their “sacrificial sweat continues to irrigate the gardens of parliamentary democracy.”
Mr. Bagbin also encouraged MPs to reconnect with constituents during the Easter break to gather insights that will guide future legislative work.
The session recorded key accomplishments, including the passage of the Legal Education Bill and approval of financial disbursement formulas for 2026. Pending bills, such as the Parliamentary Transition Bill, remain slated for further consideration.
He further praised the Clerk to Parliament, parliamentary staff, and media for their support, noting that their efforts “bring Parliament closer to the people.”
Parliament had reconvened on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, for the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Fourth Republic.
