Pupils at Sibi Jato Kparekpare JHS Risk Safety in Damaged Classrooms

Dambai, March 31, – Pupils of Sibi Jato Kparekpare Junior High School in Nkwanta North are forced to learn in hazardous conditions after strong winds tore off parts of their classroom roof nearly a year ago.

A visit revealed torn roofing sheets hanging precariously, exposing students and teachers to the elements. With limited safe space, pupils crowd into remaining covered areas, rearranging desks just to continue lessons. Rain or dark clouds often disrupt classes, and fears of a possible collapse persist.

Mr. George Konja Bingan, Assembly Member, lamented the lack of response from authorities despite repeated appeals, noting that deteriorating conditions are causing absenteeism and prompting some parents to transfer their children to other schools or keep them at home.

He called for urgent government intervention, urging the Ministry of Education and the Nkwanta North District Chief Executive to rehabilitate the school before a preventable disaster occurs.

Students themselves appealed for swift action, emphasizing their desire to learn in a safe and conducive environment.
