Tamale, April 10, – The Northern Regional Police Command has recovered two assault rifles and several rounds of ammunition following a violent attack and death threat incident at Kunyevila, a suburb of Tamale.
The operation comes after a 25-year-old victim, Yahaya Abdul Rasheed, reported to the Tamale Central District Police Headquarters at about 0635 hours on April 8, 2026, with serious injuries, including a deep cut on his forehead and multiple body bruises.
According to the victim’s account, he was attacked around 0230 hours the same day by a suspect identified as Tobilana and nine accomplices over a misunderstanding. The group allegedly assaulted him with a cutlass and robbed him of his motorbike, two mobile phones (Tecno and Infinix), and GH¢2,800.
Police said preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspect later armed himself and went to the victim’s residence, where he issued additional death threats.
Acting on the report, personnel from the Tamale District Police launched an intelligence-led operation and moved to the suspect’s residence. Although Tobilana was not found, a search of his room—conducted in the presence of independent witnesses—led to the recovery of the stolen motorbike.
The search also uncovered a submachine gun assault rifle with two magazines loaded with 77 rounds of ammunition, as well as a G3 assault rifle with two magazines containing 38 rounds.
Police confirmed that all retrieved weapons and items have been secured for evidential purposes.
The suspect and his accomplices are currently on the run, with a manhunt underway to apprehend them.
