Accra, April 9, – A 40-year-old man, Inusah Seidu, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in connection with a shooting incident at the Adjin-Kotoku Onion Market in Accra.
The arrest was carried out on Tuesday, April 8, at about 1500 hours during an intelligence-led operation at Adjin-Kotoku, according to a Police Brief.
Seidu is suspected to have played a role in the shooting incident that occurred earlier on April 5, 2026, at the busy market enclave.
He is currently in police custody and assisting investigators as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police indicated that additional suspects linked to the shooting are being pursued as part of ongoing investigations.
The development follows an earlier disturbance at the market on April 5, which escalated into gunfire after tensions reportedly emerged between some Ghanaian youth and Nigerian traders over alleged non-compliance with agreed trade regulations.
In response to the unrest, personnel from the Special Operations Unit under the Office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police deployed surveillance teams to the area to assess the situation and gather intelligence.
The targeted operation eventually led to the arrest of Seidu from a hideout within Adjin-Kotoku.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, with security presence expected to remain in the area to prevent further escalation.
The Police have assured the public of continued efforts to restore calm and bring all persons involved in the incident to justice.
