Accra, April 22, – A growing political movement, The Base Movement (TBM), has announced plans to evolve into a full-fledged political party with ambitions to contest future national elections in Ghana.
Founder of the Movement, Dr George Oti Bonsu, said TBM would only formally enter electoral politics after building a strong grassroots structure capable of sustaining national-level competition.
He indicated that the group is considering a possible bid in the 2028 general elections, but only if internal assessments show sufficient nationwide support.
“We are taking time to organise properly. When we are convinced of strong mobilisation and structure, we will become a political party and contest elections,” he said.
Dr Oti Bonsu said the Movement was born out of a desire to offer an alternative political path to the dominance of the two major parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He argued that Ghana’s development challenges and youth unemployment had created space for a “third force” grounded in practical leadership and economic transformation.
According to him, TBM’s focus is on job creation, youth empowerment, and an agriculture-driven development model designed to shift the country towards productivity-based growth.
“The future belongs to the youth, and we are building a platform that gives them real opportunities,” he said.
He added that the Movement would prioritise leadership with proven capacity for enterprise and employment creation, rather than conventional political structures alone.
Dr Oti Bonsu said TBM had been in formation for over a year and was officially unveiled on Monday, April 20, 2026, attracting about 13,000 registered members on its first day of public introduction.
He noted that the Movement was founded by a network of concerned citizens in Ghana and abroad who share a common goal of reshaping national development priorities.
