Nyinahin (Ash), April 16, – Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party is positioning itself to share the electoral votes of the Ashanti Region equally with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in future elections.
He said he was committed to achieving that target before retiring from active party politics.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah made the remarks while addressing NDC supporters at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua Constituency as part of his “thank you” tour of the Ashanti Region.
He noted that attaining that goal would require effective strategies and sustained grassroots engagement.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah observed that, unlike in the past when the region was considered the stronghold of the NPP, voting patterns were gradually shifting as residents increasingly prioritised development and improved living conditions over party loyalty.
He said the completion of inherited projects, initiation of new ones in consultation with traditional authorities and grassroots, and the creation of opportunities for the people were key to winning public support.
He emphasised that voters were now influenced by tangible development outcomes, improved livelihoods and the fulfilment of campaign promises.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah said these factors gave him confidence that the NDC could secure an equal share of votes in the region through targeted development interventions.
He urged government appointees to work diligently to promote development in their respective sectors and communities to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He also called on party members to strengthen unity, cooperate and support government efforts to advance development at the local level.
Mr Ibrahim Issahak, District Chief Executive, outlined ongoing development projects being undertaken by the Assembly in the area.
He said government was making progress in sectors including infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, energy, the economy, water and sanitation.
