National Theatre Charts Bold Path to 2030 with New Strategic Plan

Accra, March 29, – The National Theatre of Ghana has unveiled a forward-looking strategic plan aimed at elevating artistic excellence, fostering innovation, and creating economic value in the creative arts sector.

Running through 2030, the plan seeks to make the arts more accessible nationwide, broaden cultural participation, and strengthen creative skills while ensuring long-term sustainability amid rapid cultural, technological, and economic changes.

Anchored on four key objectives—sustainability, expanding audiences through innovation, attracting top collaborators, and inspiring creativity via skills development—the framework is designed to position the Theatre as a culturally vibrant, operationally efficient, financially independent, and globally connected institution.

Mr. Henry HerbertMalm, Acting Executive Director, described the plan as a decisive moment in the Theatre’s evolution, noting that it was informed by comprehensive SWOT and PESTLE analyses.

Madam Amarteorkor Amarteifio, Chairperson of the Governing Board, stressed the importance of relevance, resilience, accountability, and financial sustainability, highlighting that the strategy balances creative ambition with sound governance and evidence-based decision-making.

Some stakeholders, however, raised concerns over operational challenges. Actor and director Mr. Fiifi Coleman pointed to declining logistical, technical, and production capacities, while Mr. George Quaye, CEO of Image Bureau, called for enhanced publicity, ticketing systems, and support initiatives.

Management assured that the strategic plan would serve as a dynamic framework to guide decision-making, inspire confidence, and enable the Theatre to effectively fulfill its mandate.
