Accra, Apr 08, – President John Dramani Mahama has constituted a five-member Fiscal Council under the provisions of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by Act 1136 of 2025.
The Council is expected to reinforce fiscal discipline, improve oversight of public finances and support sound economic decision-making.
A statement issued by the Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the nominees were drawn from academia, research institutions and public financial management backgrounds.
The members include Dr Emmanuel Oteng Kumah, who will serve as Chairman, Professor Patrick Opoku Asuming representing academia, and Mr Leslie Dwight Mensah representing a research think tank.
The rest are J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Ministry of Finance, and Dr Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former official of the Bank of Ghana.
The statement said the Council would play a key role in strengthening fiscal prudence and enhancing accountability in government expenditure and revenue management.
