Accra, April 9, – President John Dramani Mahama and French President Emmanuel Macron have held high-level bilateral discussions at the Élysée Palace in Paris, focusing on strengthening cooperation between Ghana and France.
President Mahama was in France on an official visit at the invitation of President Macron.
The two leaders engaged on a wide range of issues, including trade relations, regional and global security dynamics, and the broader impact of conflicts on countries outside active zones of confrontation.
Key areas of discussion also included agricultural cooperation aimed at enhancing food security and promoting year-round farming, artificial intelligence development, maternal health support, and major infrastructure projects such as the Accra–Kumasi Expressway. They further reviewed ongoing collaboration through the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
President Mahama expressed appreciation for the invitation to co-chair the One Health Summit, noting its successful outcome and relevance to the World Health Organization (WHO).
He also highlighted the importance of the Accra Reset Initiative, indicating that it had outlined clear deliverables for further review and implementation.
The President further thanked France and China for their support in Ghana’s debt restructuring process, stating that the country’s economy had rebounded with strong and positive indicators.
He also welcomed Ghana’s selection as the first beneficiary of the health compact under the partnership arrangement.
Describing Ghana–France relations as strong and stable, President Mahama cited shared commitments to democracy, a rules-based international order, and peace and security as key pillars of the partnership.
On his part, President Emmanuel Macron expressed appreciation to President Mahama for attending the One Health Summit in Lyon and for accepting to co-chair the event.
He acknowledged Ghana’s inclusion as a beneficiary of France’s National Health Platform initiative, describing it as a significant step in strengthening health cooperation.
President Macron also commended the Accra Reset Initiative, noting its prominence in discussions during the Lyon summit and its importance in shaping global policy dialogue.
