Fiapre (Bono), April 10, – A medical practitioner, Dr Godfred Owusu Ansah, has called on Ghanaians to prioritise adequate sleep and proper rest as part of efforts to reduce rising cases of hypertension in the country.
He said high blood pressure has become a growing public health concern, with increasing cases being recorded at health facilities across the country. He noted that stress management plays a key role in preventing hypertension.
Dr Owusu Ansah explained that insufficient sleep contributes significantly to stress levels, which in turn increases the risk of developing high blood pressure.
He advised the public to adopt balanced lifestyles, including proper rest and regular sleep patterns, to help manage and prevent the condition.
The medical practitioner further recommended healthy dietary habits, including increased consumption of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins, while cautioning against excessive intake of salt and sugar.
Regular physical activity, he added, remains essential in maintaining healthy blood pressure levels and overall well-being.
Dr Owusu Ansah also encouraged routine medical check-ups to enable early detection of underlying conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and other infections.
He stressed that individuals who monitor their health regularly are better positioned to make informed decisions and prevent complications.
According to him, preventive healthcare is key to reducing avoidable health risks, urging the public to seek medical attention early rather than waiting for symptoms to worsen.
