Asokore-Mampong Assembly restricts foreigners from operating ‘Adedeta’ rickshaws

Asokore-Mampong (Ash), April 10, The Asokore-Mampong Municipal Assembly has barred foreign nationals from operating or riding “Adedeta” rickshaws for commercial purposes within the municipality.

The decision follows deliberations by the Municipal Security Council in collaboration with station executives of the rickshaw operators, aimed at addressing rising indiscipline and breaches of road traffic regulations.

A statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of the Security Council, Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, said enforcement would take effect from Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Under the directive, police will begin full enforcement of traffic rules governing the operation of “Adedeta” vehicles across the municipality.

The Assembly indicated that foreign nationals found operating the rickshaws would be arrested and prosecuted together with the registered owners of the vehicles involved.

It further stressed that all operators must possess valid driving licences and roadworthy certificates before being allowed to operate.

The statement also warned that minors would not be permitted to operate the rickshaws, adding that both underage riders and vehicle owners would face legal sanctions.

In addition, the Assembly reiterated that each “Adedeta” must carry no more than three passengers, describing overloading as a punishable offence under road traffic laws.

Authorities urged all operators to comply fully with the directive to ensure discipline and improve safety within the transport sector.
