GTA and VDF Collaborate to Develop New Paragliding Destination in Volta

Ho, April 6 – The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with paragliding pilots and the Volta Development Forum (VDF), has completed a feasibility assessment of highland sites in the Volta Region to identify new paragliding destinations.

  • Sites assessed: Adaklu and Gemi mountains
  • Trial landing sites: Helekpe, Tsrefe, Goefe, and Volta Resource Centre
  • Host district: Adaklu, under the leadership of Mr Jerry Ameko

The initiative forms part of preparations for the 2027 Mega Volta Easter Project, aimed at showcasing the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism and regional economic development.

Mr Daniel Agboka-Dzegede, Executive Director of VDF, highlighted that the project is expected to create opportunities for local communities and boost the Volta Region’s tourism potential.

Mrs Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of GTA, noted that expanding paragliding activities would diversify adventure tourism in Ghana and reduce pressure on existing sites.

Paragliding is a foot-launched, unpowered recreational sport, where pilots use a lightweight glider that inflates through the “ram-air” effect to soar, gain altitude, and land safely on foot.
