Bolgatanga, April 10, – Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the Information Services Department (ISD) into a modern, technology-driven institution aimed at improving public communication and strengthening citizen participation in governance.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Donatus Akamugri Atanga, gave the assurance when he presented three multi-purpose audiovisual vans to the Upper East Regional Directorate of the ISD in Bolgatanga on behalf of government.
The vehicles form part of 40 modern vans procured under a pilot initiative to enhance the Department’s capacity to deliver public education, advertise government programmes, and disseminate information in communities across the country.
Each van is equipped with a public address system and dual digital screens designed to support real-time information sharing, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
In addition to the vans, the region received 16 desktop computers, 16 internet routers for distribution to districts, and a laptop for the Regional Director.
Mr Atanga said the intervention formed part of broader reforms to reposition the ISD for more effective communication of government policies and programmes.
He explained that the restructuring process had placed the Department closer to the Presidency to improve coordination and ensure timely delivery of accurate information to the public.
According to him, the initiative was not isolated but part of a wider governance communication strategy focused on transparency, inclusion and citizen engagement.
He added that the Upper East Region had been zoned into central, eastern and western operational areas, with the vans stationed at Bolgatanga, Zebilla and Navrongo to improve coverage and accessibility.
Mr Atanga noted that the arrangement would help bridge information gaps, especially in rural communities where access to government communication remains limited.
Receiving the vehicles, the Upper East Regional Director of the ISD, Kuoro Bennin Douri Issifu, described the intervention as a significant boost to public information delivery in the region.
He said the initiative was particularly important for hard-to-reach communities, where residents often struggle to access timely updates on government policies and programmes.
He added that the vans would serve as mobile platforms for public education while also creating channels for citizen feedback and engagement.
According to him, the two-way communication system would enhance transparency and promote inclusive governance.
Kuoro Issifu further indicated that the vans would be used for public sensitisation on health, agriculture, security and environmental issues to improve livelihoods and community awareness.
He assured that the ISD would deploy the resources effectively and professionally to strengthen trust between government and citizens.
