Accra, April 11, – Traditional priests and priestesses of the Ga Adangbe State have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, urging intervention in the revocation of McDan Aviation’s operating licence at Terminal One of the Accra International Airport.
The petitioners, made up of Wulomei and Wɔyei, expressed concern about the broader implications of the decision, warning it could affect investor confidence and indigenous participation in critical sectors of the economy.
They noted that although the issue appeared contractual, it carried significant national importance, particularly in shaping perceptions of Ghana as an investment destination.
According to the petition, Mr Daniel McKorley, owner of McDan Aviation, invested substantially to transform the previously abandoned Terminal One into a modern private jet terminal, described as the first of its kind in the country.
They said the initiative restored value to a neglected national asset and contributed to positioning Ghana as a competitive hub for business aviation within the sub-region.
The priests also highlighted Mr McKorley’s contributions to national development, including job creation, philanthropy, and sustained investment in local communities.
“It is our considered view that his business interests ought not to be exposed to circumstances that may undermine their stability without the clearest demonstration of fairness, due process, and good faith,” portions of the petition stated.
The group further raised concerns about perceived political interference in matters affecting national development, cautioning that such perceptions could discourage local entrepreneurs from making bold investments.
They warned that the handling of the issue could send negative signals to both local and international investors regarding the security of investments in Ghana.
While acknowledging the independence of state institutions, the petitioners appealed to the President’s constitutional role as a unifying figure to ensure fairness and stability in the matter.
They called for an independent and transparent review of the circumstances surrounding the licence revocation, strict adherence to due process, and protection of indigenous investments.
The traditional leaders emphasised that the outcome of the issue could shape investor confidence in the country for years to come.
