Tema, April 15, – The family of the late Captain Frank Amoaning Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor, who died in the recent microlight aircraft crash in Tema, has described their final moments as a courageous act that may have prevented further loss of life.
At an appreciation ceremony held at the crash site, the family expressed gratitude to all individuals and institutions that supported them in the aftermath of the tragedy.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Apostle Martin Larbi, a retired minister of the Church of Pentecost and grandfather of the deceased, said the loss was painful but had been accepted within the family’s faith perspective.
He noted that the family believed the actions of the pilot and his brother contributed to protecting people in the surrounding area, reducing what could have been a far greater disaster.
Apostle Larbi said the family remained thankful that security and emergency response teams, including the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and Ghana Police Service, responded swiftly to secure the scene.
He also praised staff of the TMA Daycare Centre for their prompt evacuation of pupils, which he said helped avert additional casualties.
The family further acknowledged the support of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and President John Dramani Mahama, particularly in assisting with arrangements following the incident.
Apostle Larbi said the ceremony was both a moment of remembrance and reflection, adding that the family hoped such a tragedy would not occur again.
