Ecobank Completes Three-Year Laptop Donation to University of Ghana Students

Accra, April 8, – Ecobank Ghana has concluded its three-year commitment to support digital learning at the University of Ghana with the donation of the final batch of laptops under its “One Student, One Laptop” initiative.

The latest consignment of 100 laptops brings the total number donated to 300 since 2023, fulfilling a pledge aimed at enhancing digital literacy and improving access to learning tools for students.

Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, Mrs Abena Osei-Poku, said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to education, youth empowerment and digital inclusion, adding that access to technology has become essential in modern education.

She noted that the programme began in 2023 with the first batch of 100 laptops, followed by similar donations in 2024, and concluded this year with the final delivery.

Mrs Osei-Poku said feedback from earlier beneficiaries indicated that the devices had significantly improved academic work for students who previously lacked access to personal computers.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, said the initiative was inspired in part by challenges exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many students struggled with remote learning due to limited access to digital devices.

She stressed that digital literacy has now become a core requirement for all graduates, regardless of discipline, adding that students must leave university as digitally competent professionals.

Prof. Amfo noted that the University is also upgrading computer laboratories and expanding its digital infrastructure to support computer-based assessments and broader e-learning needs.

She further called for stronger collaboration between academia and industry to enhance internships and practical training for students.

Ecobank Ghana said the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to education, innovation and digital inclusion, aimed at supporting Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
