22-Year-Old Arrested After Viral Video Allegedly Targets Churches

Accra, April 8, – A 22-year-old man has been arrested by the Police following a viral social media video in which churches were allegedly threatened.

The footage, which first came to the attention of the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in Accra on April 5, 2026, showed a masked individual styled as a bandit. The clip carried the message: “We are starting from Ghana churches.”

Police say the suspect, Evans Puplampu, a resident of Ashaiman Community 22, was arrested on April 7, 2026, after intelligence gathering and surveillance operations linked him to the video.

Authorities indicated that the post sparked alarm within sections of the Christian community after it spread widely across social media platforms.

During questioning, the suspect reportedly acknowledged being the person in the video, saying he appeared under the TikTok alias “Eyes Man.” He told investigators the act was inspired by an online trend and was not intended to cause harm or fear.

The smartphone used in producing and uploading the video—a Samsung Galaxy A15—has been seized by police and is being processed as evidence.

He remains in custody assisting investigators as enquiries continue. The Police have also reiterated warnings against the circulation of content that could trigger fear, panic, or public disorder.
